MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS MAY 2014
The next Municipal Elections in Greece will be held in May 2014. As part of our contribution to and involvement in these elections here in Apokoronas, GefyratheBridge has set up a specific Election Matters page here.
This is intended as a space of information, news and views about the future of our Municipality of Apokoronas.
The first item to be posted is information about Registration on the Electoral Roll. We have posted a copy of the form to be completed. With it, there is a rough English translation to guide people through the process.
Both documents are best viewed in full-screen.
VOTER REGISTRATION FOR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS MAY 2014
To register, people must go in person to the Town Hall in Vrysses. There, on the ground floor, beyond the lift on the left-hand side, you will find Chrisoula Benaki. She is responsible for the registration process. She speaks excellent English and is extremely helpful. You will need to take your Passport
(ideally with a photocopy to save time and the Municipality money) and, if you have one, your Resident’s Permit.
In addition to the intrinsic importance of exercising our democratic rights as EU citizens, by voting in next year’s municipal elections we can also further demonstrate our interest in and commitment to a healthy and forward-looking Apokoronas.
THE OFFICIAL FORM LOOKS LIKE THIS. It is better in Full-screen!

We are building a bit of a library of your questions
All the answers published here have been checked with the Municipality.
Q: We registered and voted in the last local elections. Have we got to go and re--register?
A: We do not have to re-register.
Q: Do you have to be living in Crete permanently to be able to register to vote or/and can you register to vote if you own a property here in Crete but do not live here on a permanent basis?
A: The Municipality requires voters to spend “most of their time here”. If you spend time in another EU country you must choose the one place in which you will vote.
Q: In 2010, I registered in Kalyves and voted there. Do I need to re-register?
A: If you have moved to another village in Apokoronas, you must re-register so that your name appears on the Special Electoral Roll of your new village. You will need to show either a Rental Contract or an Electricity Bill or a House Contract with your name and new address.
Q: Before the election will I have to do anything to ensure I can vote or will I be reminded automatically?
A: There will no further official reminder. [We will remind you! – Ed]
Please send us any questions you have.
